The Arts
Students at Wattle Glen PS have one Visual Art lesson a week with our dedicated Art specialist teacher. During their years at school, they will develop knowledge, techniques and understandings that can be applied in visual art but also other curriculum areas. Students will explore and discuss the works of both local and international artists from different points in time, as well as developing an understanding that culture has an impact on art. Through explicit teaching and guidance, the students develop their skills in the art areas of drawing, modelling, painting, printing, construction and threads and textiles and learn to manipulate art elements such as colour, shape and tone. This knowledge builds skills and enables the students to choose appropriate materials and techniques to create their own unique artworks. Artworks are shared and celebrated in school community displays.

Performing Arts
At Wattle Glen PS we provide students with a comprehensive Performing Arts program which allows the students the opportunity to engage their mind, body and emotions to express themselves through different forms whilst developing an understanding of the elements. Our program encourages students to discover their own voice and confidence through singing, music, dance and drama.
In dance, students explore movement, use choreographic devices to develop ideas and use expression when performing. They also develop skills to respond and express their ideas in dance.
In drama students work individually and collaboratively to explore roles, characters and ideas whilst developing their skills of self-expression. They are given opportunities to present to an audience and respond as an audience member.
In music, students use their imagination and creativity to explore musical elements with both their voices and instruments. They use their voices and instruments to play and perform music from different cultures and times.
As a celebration of their learning, every odd year (e.g. 2023, 2025, etc.) all of our students have the opportunity to be part of a whole school performance in a theatre setting. The performance is an opportunity for students to showcase their singing, dance, music and drama skills, and further develop and fine-tune a practised piece to present to an audience.
